TAIWAN’S King of Pop Jay Chou “lands” in Stadium Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur on Feb 23 as part of his Jay Chou World Tour 2008.

Born on Jan 18, 1979, the World Music Award-winner is also a producer, actor and director. Trained in classical music and discovered at a talent contest in Taipei in 1998, Chou combines Chinese and Western music styles in his songs.

His distinctive music style fuses R&B, rock and pop genres, and covers issues such as domestic violence, war and urbanisation.

In 2000, he released his first album titled Jay. Since then he has released albums annually and they are a hit with fans in China, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and among overseas Chinese communities in Canada and the United States.

Chou’s other albums are Fantasy, Eight Dimensions, Ye Hui Mei, Common Jasmin Orange, November’s Chopin, Still Fantasy and On The Run.

Chou, who learnt the piano at four, directs his own music videos and has collaborated with top Taiwanese artistes such as Jolin Tsai, Coco Lee and Wang Lee-Hom as well as Hong Kong pop star Eason Chan, Jacky Cheung and Jason Lui Fong.

He has also starred in the 2005 film Initial D for which he won Best Newcomer in Hong Kong’s Golden Horse Awards. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor in the Hong Kong Film Awards for his role in the 2006 film Curse Of The Golden Flower.

He has won close to 200 music awards across Asia.

The Taiwanese government has named him as a youth ambassador who promotes healthy living. Chou is also a brand spokesman for Pepsi, Motorola and Panasonic.

In 2004, he dabbled in writing and came up with his book Grandeur De D Major.

Chou directed his first film Secret last year.
