KUALA LUMPUR: It was a rocking good time for local fans who packed Stadium Negara last night to watch J.D. Fortune, the new INXS frontman, dishing out the band’s old hits as well as those from their latest outing, Switch.

The Vancouver-born singer, who won the "Rockstar: INXS" TV reality show — based on SMS votes from fans worldwide — seemed to fit in well with the rest of the founding members.

He became the new frontman after the tragic death of lead vocalist Michael Hutchence about a decade ago.

Other members of the Australian-based group, reputed to be one of the world’s best rock groups, are the three Fariss brothers — Andrew, John and Tim — and Kirk Pengilly and Gary Beers.

The two-hour high-energy show, which is part of INXS Switch On World Tour Live series of concerts, was presented by Celcom.

Prior to their Kuala Lumpur date, the band held two concerts in North America.

At a Press conference yesterday, Fortune said he was having a great time in Kuala Lumpur.

"It’s my first visit to Malaysia, and I am very excited to meet local fans although INXS performed here about 13 years ago," he said.

He remarked that he had a "connection" with Malaysia as his godparents were from Penang.

On their new album, he said after Switch, the band would release its new single soon.

"Probably, our new album will be out next year. We have just shot a video for one of our new singles, Perfect Stranger," he said.

Asked if he was happy with the group, Fortune said it was great to work with INXS, and he was enjoying every minute of it.

"I have been on the road with INXS for 25 months now after winning the reality show. Hopefully, we will be together for the next 25 years," he said.

Pengilly insisted that it was their passion which brought them back together again in this "Chapter 2" of INXS.

"We are glad to be back in Malaysia entertaining our fans again," he said.
