KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Kong’s God of Songs Sam Hui made a triumphant return to Malaysia after more than 30 years with a sell-out “Sam Hui Live in Malaysia 2005” concert.

The concert at the Bukit Jalil Outdoor Stadium here last night drew a capacity crowd of some 50,000.

Among the VIPs who attended the event were MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting and his wife Datin Seri Wendy Ong and MCA vice-president Datuk Fu Ah Kiow.

The performance by the 56-year-old veteran singer also drew members of Chinese communities in neighbouring countries like Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei.

Hui, who made a comeback last year after almost 12 years in retirement, sang his timeless classics such as Pun Kan Pat Leong, Sap Gor Lui Zai, Hok Sang Gor, Zui Kai Pak Dong and Long Zi Sam Sing, all of which had the audience singing along with him.

Another highlight was the appearance of several guest artistes, including his sons Ryan and Scott, his older brother Ricky, China’s 12 Girls Band and Hong Kong actress Myolie Wu.

The show lasted about three hours and there will also be a second performance tonight.

“Sam Hui Live in Malaysia 2005” is presented by Da Ma Cai (Pan Malaysian Pools) and jointly organised by Galaxy Production and Sunway Lagoon Resort.

The official airline is Malaysia Airlines and the official radio station is 988, which is operated by The Star.
