Love’s in the air

Fish Leong mesmerised her fans with an unending with an unending flow of love ballads in her Today Is Our Valentine’s Day concert.

It was a lovely-dovery affair of unending love songs as Fish Leong romanced 10.000fans at her sell-out concert at Bukit Jalil Putra Indoor Stadium last Saturday night.
With a concert themed Today Is Our Valentine’s Day, love was definitely in the air. Coupled with the fact that Asia’s Queen of Love Ballads had also been bitten by the love bug herself and hinted of wanting to start her own family soon.
Four years after her first concert on homeground, the Taiwan-based Malaysian-born singer once again charmed her adoring Malaysian fans with more than 30 of her karaoke-friendly hits. Leong was elated to have her family and friends with her at the show.
The audience was ecspecially entertained by a couple of aerial silk dancers as well as a mime while she managed several coustume changes with her very first one done on stage wihin seconds.
The music started off a tad too loud but the band quickly adjusted as she belted out hit after hit:Yan Wei Die(Wings Of Love), Hui Hu Xi De Tong(Pain That Breathes), Fly Away, Wu Tiao Jian Wei Ni(Unconditionally For You), Chong Bai(j’Adore), Qin Qin(Kisses), Wo Xi Huan(I like), Jun Tian Qing Ren Jie(Today Is Valentine’s Day), Qing Ge(Love Song) and C’est la vie.
With all the lyrics on multiple screens, the show as expected was a huge karaoke session as Leong followed with a medley of three sentimental hits: A-Mei’s Ji De(Remember), Eason Chan’s  Tin Ha Mou Seung(There’s Not Another) and Beyond’s Ching Yan(Lover).
Since Leong did not really dance, she remained fresh and perky throughout the show. Even her fans seemed never to tire of singing along as she mesmerised them with Gu Dan Bei Ban Qiu(Lonely Northern Hemisphere), Ting Bu Dao(Can’t Hear), Fen SHou Kuai Le (Happy Breakup), Do Dak Ta(Thanks To Him) - the Cantonese version of Karyn White’s superwomen with Iyrics by awardwining Hong Kong lyricist Albert Leung(better known as Lam Jik).
Leong then introduced her good friends and fellow Taiwan-based Malaysian singer Maichael Wong as her guest artiste for the night.
Looking dapper in the white jacket and red slacks, Wong dueted with Leong on Zhang Xin(Palm).
As she rushed backstage for a coustume change, he congratulated her for being nominated as best female Mandarin artiste for the 20th Golden Melody Awards, which will be held in Taipei later this month.
Then to ‘fans’ delight, he sang for the very first time on stage Deem Siu Yee(Waiter), the first Cantonese song he penned, which has been receiving a lot of air play on local Chinese radio stations recently.
Fans happily sang along when he continued with his top hit Tong Hua(Fairytable) from his best-selling album of the same name.
Leong aptly ended her show with Yong Qi(Courage), the song written by Wong, which helped her career take off.
Following repeated calls for an encore, she emerged to sing her Cantonese number Yuen Loi Nei Ya Cheung Gor Ngor Dik Gor(You Have Sung My Songs Before) as fans wished her happy birthday (Leong turns 31 today).
As she promised , Leong proceeded to invte her friends to jon her on stage.
Singer-songwriter and filmaker A-Niu (Tan Kheng Siong) - who took a break from filming his movie Ice Kacang Puppy Love - took to the stage bearing flowers for her. Leong jokingly lamented that Tan gave her only a small part in his movie with no dialogue.
In between light-hearted banter, he strummed his guitar while she sang Faye Wong’s Wo Yuan Yi(I’m Willing) and Bobby Chen’s Wo Bu Zai Rang Ni Gu Dan(I Won’t Let You Be Lonely), hinting at her impending farewell to singlehood.
Other friends who heede Leong’s call to join her on stage included her cousin R&B singer Z-Chen, My FM deejay Phoebe and JAck(of local band Baby).
The five entertained with Moon River before wrapping up with Ai Ni Bu Shi Liang San Tian
(Loving You Isn’t Only For Two or Three Days).
